Iona Costello
Iona Costello grew up on Shelter Island when the place was referred to as
"living out in the boonies". It was a wonderful childhood riding her horse all
over the island watching the baymen scallop. She developed a great love for
nature and a need to be outdoors.
Iona received her BFA in oil painting
and Art History from Pratt Institute in the 1980’s. Since then she has been a
riding instructor running her own farms.
Currently she owns The Old Dairy Farm where she teaches riding,
holds art classes where she uses the farm animals as models to do live
model drawing and runs a dairy/cheese making business from Jersey cows and Alpine goats.
Finally with the time to paint, Iona is back working weekly to capture all the wonderful
scenes her farm presents as well as the nautical East End surroundings.
Iona will be hosting "Art on the Farm" Plein Aire drawing classes for adults, beginning in
May 2011. Click here for more information.
